掛図と標本―美術工芸学校の教材

京都府画学校は明治13年に絵画の学校として生まれました。やがて地域の産業と結びつきを強めながら、京都市立美術工芸学校へと組織の改編を重ねます。そこで行われた教育には絵手本や標本など様々な教材が使用されました。これらは、鑑賞のために制作されたものではないため、これまで公開の機会はまれでしたが、かつての教育の姿を浮かび上がらせる貴重な資料群です。戦前までの美術教育では、絵画・図案にかかわらず、京都という歴史的な地域の伝統を重視していました。肉筆で制作された故実教育のための掛図に代表されるように、これらは、近世的な要素を持ちながらも、学校という教育の場にふさわしい近代的な視点を意識するものでした。

Wall Maps and Samples - teaching materials of Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Craft

Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting was founded in 1880. While strengthening its ties to the local industry, it was restructured multiple times, eventually becoming Kyoto City University of Arts. Education at the school used a variety of teaching materials such as painting model books and specimens. Since these were not created to be appreciated as artworks, they have thus far been rarely shown to the public. However, they are valuable materials that bring into relief the education of the past.
