On May 17, the day before the International Museum Day, ICOM-Japan will organize an international symposium, “Internationalization of Japanese Museums,” from 1:30 to 5:30 pm, at the Kyoto National Museum.

The symposium assembles leaders of major museum associations in Japan, to discuss the outlook toward hosting of the ICOM General Conference in Kyoto in 2019, and the challenges met by Japanese museums toward internationalization.

At the end of January 2015, ICOM-Japan submitted a bidding paper to the ICOM Headquarters for holding the General Conference in 2019. Now, Japanese colleagues/museum professionals are working hard and looking forward to sharing issues and participating in the ICOM community as much as possible.
