東京国立博物館が所蔵する舟木本洛中洛外図屏風（国宝）は、17世紀初頭の京都を生き生きと描いた絵画として知られています。凸版印刷株式会社が最新の技術を駆使して撮像したデジタル画像は、通常はガラス越しにしか見ることのできない本作品と一般の人たちとを直接つなぎ、仔細な鑑賞を可能とする貴重な資料です。
京都大学と凸版印刷とは、日本の文化財の活用の可能性の開拓に資するため、2018年度より本デジタル画像の活用の効果的な方法の開発をめぐる共同研究を実施しています。本展覧会では、その成果の一部を公開します。

Scenes in and around Kyoto, Funaki version is a designated national treasure from the collection of the Tokyo National Museum, featuring vivid depictions of Kyoto at the beginning of the seventeenth century, painted on a folding screen. Toppan Printing has employed its state-of-the-art technology to produce digital images of this valued art object that could otherwise only be seen through glass by the public. The digital images allow people to examine the artwork up close.
