In 2019 (Reiwa 1) a new emperor ascended the throne, and the Daijōsai is planned for November 2019. Until the enthronement of Emperor Shōwa, all related ceremonies were held in Kyoto, and various facilities such as the Daijōkyū (the buildings for the Daijōsai) and Kyōenjō (banquet venue), were built in the city’s Imperial Palace.
This exhibition features handscroll related to the Daijōsai that is kept in the Kyoto Sangyo University’s library, and shares information with visitors on the Daijōsai and the set of enthronement ceremonies called the Gotairei.
